Luckily the economy and society will crumble into chaos before that ever happens.bittersweet sure but think of the good news, even the rich and powerful will be dragged down to our level of power and even their money won’t help them.
I can’t disagree more. No other country on the planet offers its citizens the opportunity to make a difference in its government more than we have here. We’re the only ones who can help. If you reflect the attitude of the majority, then we are in a self-fulfilling prophecy. That would be sad given the opportunity that exists.
austerity is the fancy way of making the poor pay the Elite’s bill’s. after all, those who have the Gold make the rules.
Republic smublic,, fancy that. such lies and innuendo. congress is nothing but a Club of the Rich, by the Rich and for the Rich. R or D has little difference nowadays. the 1% make the 99% pay for everything.

Folks need to realize Wiley has summed up “privatization”, where toll roads around the country (operated by AUSTRALIAN companies) have taken over roads constructed with PUBLIC MONEY, and now increase the cost of travel by 500 to 5,000% per mile!!
When the west was being settled, private landowners did construct toll roads at key passes in many places. Travel sped up considerably in time, and volume however when tax supported “free” roads replaced tolls.
Now the Golden Gate Bridge has replaced the “human element” of actual toll takers, it will be interesting to see what happens to those tolls now that “costs” have been reduced.
They should use one of those en route to Capitol Hill! Make the politicians pay toll before they can get in — BAZINGA! National debt solved, over time.
There are plenty of ways to go austere without hurting the public. Eliminate “entertainment” and “travel” budgets for members of state and federal Congress, for one. What are they doing that justifies an “entertainment” budget at all? Go spend seven bucks on a movie ticket; that’s about all the “entertainment” budget we, their constituents, have.
Many years ago before Obamanomics hit…or for that matter was ever thought of there was a parking meter on every block of the downtown district of my town…now there is no downtown…and to think ….WalMart was interested in doing the same thing here killing the economy.
It’s folks with attitudes/opinions like yours that allow the least competent and ethical to pursue/accomplish their detrimental ends. Guess you could leave, while you still may…or are you looking for a “Free Ticket”?
I am really sick of all of you who blame Con’s or Dem’s for the economic mire we’re stuck in. There would be no discussion of austerity if the tax burden, for each level, were actually paid!.. The poorest among us and the shrinking middle class pay their fair share because the are afraid of the consequences of not doing so. The super rich, who are, supposedly taxed at 35%, find myriad ways to dodge those taxes, therefore, not paying for the services rendered to them by the rest of us and in most cases only pay an effective rate of 13% or less (Mitch Romney figures). many of the richest corporations the world has ever seen, making obscene profits… actually get refunds from we, the real tax payers.
Bickering among ourselves is solving nothing except enlarging the wealth disparity being suffered in this country. The time for the blame game is ended… the time for action is at hand.
1) Eliminate off shore headquarters of mega corporations for the purpose of tax evasion.
2) Restore Tariffs on goods imported by and from American companies operating overseas, then, shipping cheap goods home, to the same levels established in the 80’s by Reagan.
3) Enforce all the laws extant on the books against tax evasion. Period… with no exclusions or loop holes.
Americans are greedy people and the mega rich are only too happy to satisfy and manufacture that greed. We have forgotten the lessons of our grandfathers who only bought what they needed and not what they wanted… can any of us actually tell the difference today?

Sounds like our governor who wants to sell the major highways in the state to private firms to make into toll roads.

They had to. The Chicago Toll system was paying off too quickly with all the drivers and they didn’t want to lose their jobs.
