I wonder if a candidate who says “I’ll make America great again” is referring to the Great Depression.

Any one of the candidates running could make this country what it once was: an arctic region covered with ice. (Thanks for the line, Steve Martin!)

If any candidate thinks this country’s greatness is dependent upon their (or any one person’s) leadership, they are delusional.

I think America is pretty much the best. It can always get better. But I never understood the “great again” line. Like the 1950s or the 1930s were great?

America is great. We’re just not respected. Our foreign policy is joke and the world knows it. They’ll gladly take our money, but they’ll never wholeheartedly support us. We need a leader, not a pawn. And I really don’t care if it’s a democrat or a republican….just give us a leader please.

The “great again” meme appeals to nostalgia. With the rapidly aging demographic of the GOP, its about all they have. Curiously, if you ask any of them when exactly this time was, they cant tell you when or why……….

So you want to make America great again.

    What’s not-so-great about America now?

@HectorGonzalez Yeah, about that “conquered by immigrants” bit. How’d that work out for the Native Americans/Indians who were living here already? Not so good eh? Tribal extinctions & genocide, theft of lands, removal to ghettos on the worst possible locations, and still under the not-so-benevolent thumb of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

But don’t worry. Current Americans are dumber than rocks and what goes around, comes around. Because of the U.S.’s idiotic leaders and immigration policy, Immigrants, legal and illegal, are about to do to the current American population and society what the European invasion did to the Native American Indians.

The only thing America does well these days is incarcerate its own citizens, and murder its own citizens. When it comes to medical care, education, and technology, America barely makes the top 20.

Fellow Texans, I am proudly standing here to humbly see. I assure you, and I mean it- Now, who says I don’t speak out as plain as day? And, fellow Texans, I’m for progress and the flag- long may it fly. I’m a poor boy, come to greatness. So, it follows that I cannot tell a lie.

Ooh I love to dance a little sidestep, now they see me now they don’t- I’ve come and gone and, ooh I love to sweep around the wide step, cut a little swathe and lead the people on.

Now my good friends, it behooves me to be solemn and declare, I’m for goodness and for profit and for living clean and saying daily prayer. And now, my good friends, you can sleep nights, I’ll continue to stand tall. You can trust me, for I promise, I shall keep a watchful eye upon ya’ll

Ooh I love to dance a little sidestep, now they see me now they don’t- I’ve come and gone and, ooh I love to sweep around the wide step, cut a little swathe and lead the people on.

Yes, we need leaders but more important, we need a population that cares enough to VOTE!!! It’s a shame the turnout is what it is! This country can regain the greatness it once exuded, the respect it once held. PEOPLE, I have friends and family who died for your right to vote. For Heaven’s sake, exercise that right!

pelican47Or Molly Ivins (whom, I suspect, was ghost-writing a lot of Ann’s best lines). “Shrub”, “Governor Good-Hair”, etc..mikel52“Barely 20”? US health care ranks in the upper 30s, beat by Japan and Singapore in Asia, and Cuba, Costa Rico, and Canada in the Americas. We are the greatest for treating rare and expensive diseases, but beat by most of Europe in controlling infant and maternal mortality, which is also indicative of standard of living. As for education, our poor adult literacy rate goes back to the Trail of Tears, when the US was 30% and the “ignorant, savage Cherokee” were 95%, which is where we are now, beat by most of the non-colonial world, and some that have been colonies in the 20th century.

Great again? What happened to “American Exceptionalism”, that idea that we’re great because of who we are rather than what we do? You know, the nationalist version of the self esteem movement. It’s a wonder we can do anything while constantly patting ourselves on the back for being so awesome.

The election is over a year away. Nobody is going to remember what was said by whom by then. And don’t you just hate it when retailers put the Christmas decorations out for sale before Halloween?

Not funny. The “making America great again” point is SO obvious, regardless of what you may think about The Donald. Not to be mocked, regardless of politics.

Wallythe2I can remember when no merchant dared put Christmas merchandise (an oxymoron?) out until after the Thanksgiving weekend. Now, if it isn’t out by mid-October, they are publicly denounced as part of the “War on Christmas”.
