I suspect it went like this in some press bullpen somewhere:BOSS: “Okay people, the Brian Williams debacle was just the start. Now with Trump calling us liars people are starting to really question what we say… we need some damage control.”CRONIE 1: “We could try making sure everything we report is fact-checked and readily verifiable so there would be no question about our legitimacy.”CRONIE 2: “We could stop injecting bias and opinion into our reports and only report facts rather than blatant opinion.”CRONIE 3: “We might consider hiring people based on their success as a journalist rather than hiring people who who are attractive just to be eye candy.”BOSS: “How about we deflect these accusations with buzzwords like ‘Faken News’ and ‘Alternative Facts’? Yeah, that’s the ticket!”

We have a guy in the White House who doesn’t understand the difference between a news organization that adheres to journalistic standards and a blog where they just type whatever they want to be true.

Alternative facts and manufactured news has been practiced since time en memoria. The American distrust and confusion about what is real news and what is fake took a life of its own during the Johnson administration and grew to yuge proportions while Nixon & Co. controlled the White House.

While LBJ wanted to control the press, he also was publicity savvy ( although holding up his dog by the ears didn’t exactly make for a great photo op ).

Nixon, on the other hand loathed the free press and detested the media in general, blaming them for his loss to Kennedy. He and his surrogates did all they could to manipulate news and suppress the truth.

Given the medium age of the Trumpistas, I believe that much of their distrust of “facts” is a subconscious hangover from the Nixon days.

They don’t seem to realize that the Rupert Murdochs, Rush Limbaughs, and Steve Bannons of the world are manipulating them into believing that anything that comes out of academia, or the media is a lie and not to be trusted or believed. The only truth they should believe is what is disseminated through Fox, Breitbart, and the alt-right pundits .

This is Nixonian to the ultimate extreme !

Concerning biased news, recall that the “yellow press” played a big part in the US getting into the Spanish American War.

And you wonder why some of us take on the liars that can post here? Someone must or they get away with it and if it just turns one more person to it, will be a loss.

Side comment: we ALL live in realities of our own creation and decorate them with our personal alternative facts. Anyone who has ever been in a relationship should be able to relate. You and your significant other(s) live through the same events, but if asked, will describe different versions of what “happened”; especially the arguments.

Its what happens when your side owns the media, schools, Hollyweed, and are deeply entrenched inside the guvment bureaucracy. The MSM allows Democrats (example: BenGhazi video, you can keep your own doctor etc) and itself to tell big ole fibs / coverups. Republicans and the few conservative outlets remaining are not saints either, but they don’t get that privilege.

I used to watch Al-Jazeera America until it went off the air because of poor ratings: they didn’t devote 80% of their airtime to the Trump & Hillary Show. Now I watch BBC America. I do watch CBS, NBC, CNN, etc. when I’m in the mood for “Reality TV.” If I take on more grain of salt, my blood pressure will go through the ceiling.

Nonetheless we have the First Amendment, the contents of which Trump doesn’t understand. Of course, there are a lot of things the man doesn’t understand. Never attribute to malice those things that can adequately be explained by ignorance.

If anyone questions Danae’s alt fact, she can just ask the FBI to release a statement confirming her tweet.
