Most cat food tins have those pull top rings now. In theory a cat could learn how to do it, I suppose, with another cat to hold the tin down. Then the argument would break out.
I read an article in Scientific American on the domestication of various animals: dogs, pigs, cows, sheep … The article pretty much stated that whether cats were domesticated is debatable: precisely who domesticated whom.
First of all, how about a shout out to Wiley’s cats? If they ever team up with the bears we’re in trouble….Night-Gaunt, the best name I’ve heard for raccoons is Trash Pandas…
Cats already know how to control the can opener – and the door opener – and the warm, soft spot to sit – and the cat massager – and the treat deliverer – etc.
They know how to control the humans.
(They are learning how to do their own web surfing, though – check the web history of your computer when you are gone – they are all watching the mouse game!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJUuGz3iiDI
While not germane to the subject at hand, the following describes the differences between how dogs and cats think of humans. The dog thinks, “This guy loves me, and feeds me, and takes care of me. He must be a god.” The cat thinks, “This guy loves me, and feeds me, and takes care of me. I must be a god.”
My mother had brother?sister cats. The male was a little retarded, but the female could open the screen door for them both to go out, but apparently never figured out how to get back in. My mother would have to bribe them with treats to come in at night. Story 2) My g?f’s cat knew that I would have a can of tuna before bed. I never tried, but I don’t think I would have made it out of the kitchen if I didn’t give her (the cat) a forkful!! AND WE SAY WE OWN THEM!!
Of course, then who puts the cat food in the cans in the first place? Or makes the concoction that constitutes cat food? Who makes the cans? Mastering the can opener is just the beginning of their problems.

Their paws really don’t work as well as the hands like what mapatchly or we call raccoons have to open doors.

OTOH, if you take over the world, you can have those pesky humans open them for you.

Too much work to learn how to operate a can opener. That is what the servants are for.

My cat will only eat canned cat food on occasion; that is to say, she will slurp up the gravy eagerly, but will not eat the solids.

I have never had a cat wait patiently in another room while I was getting it’s dinner. Usually they have been yowling at me while trying to trip me!

Here’s the thing, cats. If you take over, you get to change your own litter boxes.
Your call.

Dogs with thumbs would be bad enough.
Cats with thumbs would be a catastrophe.

Nice drawing, bit it’s a joke that dates back to the invention of cans.
