Reminds me an old Sci-Fi short; the aliens were scouting planets. Got back home and made their report which said stay away from the one called “Earth”, the idiots there test nuclear weapons in the atmosphere!
Some days ago, Kathleen Parker wrote a scathing article for the WaPo, moaning and groaning about foreigners coming into her southern town and destroying its ambience. The “foreigners” were from the midwest U.S. . . .sigh
Most of us have an “we VS them” mentality; whether it is sports, religion, politics, even the cars we drive. Makes you wonder how we got as far as we did and is there a peaceful future? Can there be a peaceful future?
I’ve read that you need one (or more) of those missiles of the atomic variety to kill cockroaches. I believe that. They may be invasive, but like the meek, shall inherit the Earth.
Oh my God, this ART. The subject matter is all too depressingly true, but it gives me joy that some members of our invasive species have this kind of artistic talent. (And scrolling down and seeing it “unfold” makes the art even more powerful.)

Thankfully Israel has the Iron Dome or all of those Hamas and Hezbollah rockets would have killed thousands and thousands.

This month’s Scientific American’s feature article is on the new arms race.
I enjoyed growing up in the cold war when humankind was always 40 minutes away from extinction.

La cucaracha, la cucaracha,
ya no puede caminar
porque le falta, porque no tiene
marihuana pa’ fumar.
Ya murió la cucaracha
ya la llevan a enterrar
entre cuatro zopilotes
y un ratón de sacristán.
