What fun can there be if there’s no risk involved?

Similar to what my mom would say to me, “work hard, have fun”. I would reply I can only do one of those.

After nine years of Catholic schools my one (inadvertent) major lesson was how to NOT get caught!

There is a so-called ‘risk gene’ in the DNA of humans who seek adventure despite, or maybe because of, the inherent danger involved. Without it, the Meek of the earth but have nothing to inherit.

Lucy is the Star Trek Ensign in this – he is the first to go when the adventure goes sideways!

Not knowing he’s fictional, they set out to find Mr.Ed

Yup, sounds like Lucy’s been through this before ! ;-)

It’s like goofing off… it’s only fun if you’re supposed to be doing something else.

Swinging on a rope tied to a dead tree to get far enough to leap over the gully and slide down the far side. The tree started sagging and twisting as we did it all summer. One day we got there and it was gone. Cut down along with our chances of pulling it out of the ground and having it land on us. Consolation prize. We could still slide down the sides of the gully.

In Danae’s world, “a big, fun adventure” involves the probability of getting into trouble. Anything less just isn’t worth the effort.
