In Junior Year in High School, we took a couple of weeks out to study journalism including: fact-gathering, presentation and ethics. We had to take a story and follow it through two news papers noting “hard metrics” like how big was the headline, where did it appear, how many sources were used, etc.
We also did “soft metrics” based on the choice of words and if judgments were made as to WHY people acted the way they did. So when I hear words like, “fake,” “lazy” or “shithole” it degrades the validity of the source.
Name calling means, “I can’t refute the facts, so I will belittle the source.” and labeling is, “I think this is wrong, but I can’t tell you why, so I’ll heap it in with something else that I think is wrong.”
I don’t like other people telling me how I should think. I make up my own mind. It does not matter whether the word is coming from the idiot box, a political party or the pulpit.

There actually ARE people who believe that all food is toxic and you shouldn’t eat anything. Google “inedia” or “breatharianism”.
