I remember once reading about a baby swing which played the sound of a car engine. There was also someone who invented a baby seat that fit on an upright vacuum cleaner, that way you could do house work get the baby to nap.
My daughter needed some kind of vibration and pressure. A buggy ride would work if the sidewalks were bumpy enough. Off visiting once, no sidewalks and the street was too smooth. Just moved into the ditch for a couple blocks; like magic.
our 4 would be asleep before we left the driveway. One in a while we had to go around the block. The oldest hated long rides and would let us know she was not happy about it.
I read that the reason Rowling finished Harry Potter in coffee shops was because she had a baby who would only sleep if given a long walk in the baby carriage. So she walked to the coffee shop, finished the novel and the rest, as they say, is history.
Husband was a small town doctor, saw patients at his office in the evenings sometimes if it didn’t sound too serious. Parents were surprised that the sick babies were often much better by the time they got to the clinic. Getting out into fresh air and the car ride to the office seemed to help.

My son could sleep as soon as he was horizontal.

When the tot was asleep, my goal was to get to my destination as fast as possible, before the little distraction woke again.

Hmmm, that’s the same way my bike’s GPS would route me.

Definitely not the route with a car full of tweens after breakfast.

The route in red is the one I’d have to take to get my son to sleep.

A 15 minute nap in the car seemed as good as a 2 hour nap at home for my kids.
