As I get older, I increasingly appreciate the Hobbit tradition of regiving. It is a good way to pass on items you have treasured and the stories that go with them. And of ‘down-sizing’.
It’s a myth that goldfish, at least, have a three second memory. They’re actually quite smart and can remember things for months. We used to have the tank next to the bathroom so I would feed it on my way to shower. It would get excited when it saw me getting undressed, knowing that it would be fed soon. That’s already somewhat abstract thinking.
