Buying stuff we don’t need with money we don’t have (I think I saw that on Arlo & Janis)

I was at a store with my friends sister, just night before last. I was trying to get her to leave, before my Dark Chocolate Klondike Bars melted, while she was still trying to find excuses to keep shopping. Grabbing a pair of sandals as we passed, she said, “I don’t have any white sandals.” As if that established a need for them. An urgent need, even.

A savings account that earns 5%!? When was this strip written? You’re luck to get more than 0.2% these days. US Bank is currently offering 0.01% (yes, one tenth of one percent). Low overhead online accounts can get you a very high and exciting 1.00%.
