I’ve seen my cat sneak within 3 feet of an oblivious squirrel, then jump 2.5 feet to land next to the squirrel solely for the fun of chasing it up a tree.
Bob cat caught any squirrel he chased, which is amazing because most cats use their tails as counter balances, and he had only a stub. He was one fast, highly maneuverable cat.
