On the Washington coast, we did not have a lot of hot weather, although we used to think that 80 was hot. There were only two places in town with air con, the library and the bowling alley. Bucks were hard to come by but it was three games for one. Spent a lot of time in both, mixed in with a lot of baseball and board games.

We did not have air conditioning when I was growing up. I practically lived at the library over the summer!

I recall my parents telling me that in the 1950s, going to the air-conditioned movie theater was the way to get out of the heat.
