Re: yesterday’s movie post, I do vaguely remember it, but I haven’t seen it in quite some time. I’d have to see it again to decide if I want to add it to my movie collection. I do have “Young Frakenstein” in my collection….a movie made in B/W in a time when all films and TV shows were being done in color. It really seamed to capture the mood & spirit of the old Frankenstein movies.
That’s right Susan. “Be careful for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6
Just remember Grandpa, maybe Grandma wishes she’d married some famous actor of the same generation.
See it again, BC13 - it has Steve Martin interacting with cuts from some great old B&W detective movies, with actors like
Humphrey Bogart, Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster, Ingrid Bergman, Lana Turner, Joan Crawford, and even Charles Laughton, as I remember. It’s done very well, and was directed by Carl Reiner, which is always a big plus in my opinion.
“TNIV: When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”
And what if you pray for someone to get better? And they don’t, is that because you prayed for your own pleasure? Excuse me for being pleased that they’d be better. What if they pray to be healed, and aren’t? Are they wrong to be pleased that they’ve recovered? Well, that’s how god made humans. To derive pleasure from healing and getting better.
Prays are god’s way of knowing he’s hurting you enough. So he can give you even more.
mrprongs > There are plenty of reliable testimonies of people being healed by Jesus, with medical evidence to back it up.
Somethimes other things block Gods healing.
A Canadian pastor told us “if you’re bitter you won’t be better !”
Can’t claim to know the specifics, but I do know God loves His children.
I sincerely hope Grandpa meant “Not all my prayers have been answered.” If he’s correct that “All my prayers have not been answered”, he needs to change either his prayer technique, or for what he prays! Still, you have to admire his tenacity; 80 years of unanswered prayers, and he hasn’t given up yet…
Sometimes the best answer is no. If he’d married Sophia Loren, would he have enjoyed life as much as he has? With age he realizes that the answer he got was better than what he’d asked for.

I prayed for Sophia Loren - didn’t work for me, either. (Or Brooke Shields, or Natalie Portman, or…)

It’s called “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid”. Came one out year prior to my existance (1980).

can’t you all just read and enjoy the comic for what it is instead of disecting it and offering up opinions?
