James. I wish you had a momma that would let you sit on her lap. But since you don’t, I’m glad you can borrow Ruthie’s. This makes me so sad. I teach high school, and I know I have students who were just like James.
I just retired after working in an elementary school for 28 years. Very poor , depressed area , right on heroin highway. I have seen so many of the kids grow up and be in and out of jail. One little guy in particular, that I always had a soft spot for, used to say “close your eyes, I gotta surprise for you” then he would give a hug. I rocked him many a mile in preschool. It is so very hard to see them come to no good as one always hopes a word at the right time will help. He does remember me fondly, though. He runs into my son occasionally when he is out of jail, and always says "tell your mom hi .She was my favorite grown up at the school! Sigh.
