I thought ‘aye’ was pronounced like ‘eye’. I thought they were homophones.

I thought it was spelled “eh” and pronounced to rhyme with “hay” when you say it in Canadian.and I thought “aye” was pronounced “eye” or “I” and was what sailors said.
