I’ve heard some people have the same problem with dogs they wash the dog and the dog goes outside to find some garbage so the dog will smell “right” to him or herself.
Some of my ideas for GMO pets include giving them human dentition and digestive systems so that they can eat human food without difficulty. And having them smell “naturally” fresh all the time. Even to lavender or some other scent. And that checkerboard dog pelt trait sells real well in the 2030’s.

One of my least fond memories of the gym locker rooms was the resident odour. If I had any aroma it was likely Right Guard.
