Even before the rattle of the leash.. There is the hand, jostling air molecules as it moves toward the lea- oh, yeah.. When a walk is a high point of your day.. You are listening.
It could be that he lost one in a battle with the Green ship pirates… They are mortal enemies remember… or it could be simply that as he reaches to grasp the leash the last finger is obscured as it curls under his hand.
This is a cartoon its all about allowing your mind to take you away from reality for a few seconds each day, and Chip does that for most of us and we really couldn’t care how many fingers Henry has.
I would rattle my keys when I was going to drive somewhere and my doggie could come with me. He would go ballistic! Once, I accidentally knocked them off the bureau and they rattled when they hit the floor. Well, he was off. “Let’s go! Let’s go! Let’s go! C’mon! C’mon!” I kind of had to take him for a drive, then! :-)P.S. He was a Lab-Dalmation mix.
You missed a step, Chip. There’s the step where the unborn idea of getting up to go for a walk stirs in the human’s brain, creating extremely loud “THE IDEA OF A WALK IS ABOUT TO OCCUR!!!” waves, which in turn alert the dog to come over and encourage, usually accompanied by a large (sometimes drooly) grin, the nascent idea to come to fruition, the first confirmation of which is the air waves in the direction of the leash moving. That grin…!
