At the small mom and pop supermarket where I worked, we had a closed area where we put all the bad produce to be picked up. This was just before we got dumpsters. Every year, from spillage, we would have a bumper crop of cucumber, zucchini, various tomato’s and peppers. I picked a large bag of plum tomatoes and pepper one time, and under my mom’s direction, prepped and cook them down and made one whole serving of really kick-a$$ tomato sauce. Lotta work for small reward. But totally worth it.

Last time I did tomatoes, I bought six plants. I had to get the neighbor over with his front loader to hold all the tomatoes at harvest. True story!

For a second there I thought the gardener was having my problems with tomatoes. My whoppers came out as wimps this year. Others had the same problem.
