Admittedly, it is hard to tell real male and female turtles apart. . .

With Verne’s luck those are male turtles in drag.

It is easy with box turtles (Terapena carolinis): males have red eyes and concave plastrons, while females have yellow eyes and a flat plastron.

@TheTrustedMechanic and rollsroyce Right on brothers, or sisters, or whatever. These are comics. They are written to elicit a chuckle or, when lucky, a belly laugh. And if people think turtles with fros and boobs ain’t funny then maybe they should go back to reading the obituaries.

Usually when females are in this strip, they’re like the male characters with hair. In this case, Verne has more hair so M & T have to make them look like females in another way. That was the main difference between the strip and the movie. The movie creators had to develop more believable women characters.

I do enjoy life—and laughing my kiester off when people get so freaking serious about a snarky, sarcastic comment made about a comic strip! Geez, get over yourself!
