People have been complaining about new technology rendering jobs obsolete since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.

I worked in manufacturing for years and saw some dazzling automation take place. Mindless, dead-end jobs were replaced by machine tenders, mechanics, parts and finish work handlers, electricians, and machine designers. You decide.

I thought working class parents worked hard to put their kids through college so the kids wouldn’t have to work like their parents. The result is what you get now: not as many people in Western countries want to work industrial jobs. Not everyone has a college education, but the rest of them will live off their credit card. A few, like me, are trying to save money for a trade school. Unions AND certain presidents don’t seem to understand that simply bringing back working class jobs or banning immigrants isn’t an answer that will work for everyone.

Got to see 2nd half of OTH movie, in Spanish, last night on cable here— lots to see in that movie — and even back then (and even before the Vermin8tor showed up), Verne got out-of-sorts-ed and booted up a time or two.

I’ve heard from reliable sources that there are plenty of trade industry jobs….nobody wants to be bothered getting trained for them. I think the days of high school dropouts walking into good-paying jobs are over. You have to have some training….I’ve had to go back to school multiple times to get the jobs I wanted, but I’m 69 and still working.
