Prefer the grey hair that comes slowly. And prefer not trying to fool myself by dyeing it. Better to accept the aging than to deny it. For the longest time my paternal grandmother lived by the “you’re only as old as you feel” mantra, and she tended to act ten or twenty years younger than she really was (well, up to a given point she did). You’d listen to her talk about the old biddies who were ten to twenty years younger than she was but acted like they were ten to twenty years older than she was. Here she was with white hair and was quite spry for her age up to her early ‘90s. I’d rather accept aging and take that view on life.
I started getting a few grey hairs when I was 30. My mother noticed and said that I “HAD” to start coloring. I told her that I didn’t “HAVE” to do anything of the sort, and quoted Proverbs 16:31 to her. 20 years later, I have quite a few more grey hairs and STILL haven’t colored. (For the record, my mother also started greying at 30 and started coloring right away. Since she was 32 when I was born, I have NEVER seen my mother’s natural hair.)
I would actually like it for my hair to turn gray. I have a few scattered gray hairs, but you have to look real close to see them. I would love to have a full head of white hair. Unfortunately for my taste, my genetics indicate that I will not get my wish. When my dad died (at age 84), he had salt and pepper hair… and my mom had a similar graying pattern.
