The characters ages changed over the course of the strip. You forget that Chuck was originally the youngster of the group, compared to Original Patty and Shermy. Gradually, he and Schroeder (still a baby at this point) and Lucy (yet to appear) became the elders and Linus and Sally were the “younger generation”.
No kidding. I walked a half-mile to school and back every day and occasionally cut through trails in the woods just to go a different way, even when I was 7 or 8. No worries. Imagine doing that today without having cops called on your parents for not firing up the helicopter?
No wonder college students demand so-called “safe zones” and can’t handle the slightest disagreement. They were never allowed to grow up so now we’ve got a nation of 20-year-olds with POV’s of third graders.
How did Patty get the idea that CB is old enough to attend school?And hopefully, CB didn’t find himself lost after following Patty for some distance. Probably can’t read street signs (with street names on them) yet.
