People were shocked the year my sisters and I made a book. There was a page for each of us and each listed 2 items. We didn’t think it was strange.

If Santa’s anything like me, flattery will get you coal in your stocking.

The time-honored formula for prayer:1) Butter Him up;2) Ask for something.

I find the reference to “words of praise” an interesting contrast with later attacks on religion for self benefit (the great pumpkin with Lucy and other references). I could certainly dig up enough material there for a term paper LOL

I delight in showing my nieces photos of their mother and I surrounded by our presents— a doll or two for her, a football and a truck for me (the underwear and socks used to puff up the present count not included in photos). And (as I point out to my wife) aunts and uncles were good for a card, if that. Not the several-shopping-bags-full of loot she buys for them.

My sister and I sometimes had more fun playing with the empty boxes…

Don’t remember when I last made a Christmas list. At some point it became a wish list for both Christmas and my birthday to be used more as a suggestion of things I would like. Still make one to this day and I’m still lucky if I get one or two items on it. But a lot of items I get actually come from going over the list and getting a feel of things I might enjoy even if their not on the list. The list shouldn’t be about getting what’s on it, but just ideas of what you’re interested in.

I tried that once. Wrote one hell of a letter. said great things, a lot of flattery. I then asked for a bike…I got socks……I guess I should have said nice things about him…and not me
