My grandniece sucked her thumb/fingers to an unreasonably old age; she was also deficient in the “wash your hands after using the bathroom” department. I used to point out that she knew where her hands had been, but it still took a long time to fix either behavior.
Since I started reading these “old” Peanuts strips, the most disconcerting thing has been the difference in Charlie Brown’s personality. He’s a bit of a jerk, sometimes, but also less inclined to let himself be a doormat.

People used to take the ice trays out of the freezer, dump the ice into a bowl, and then use ice tongs to transfer the cubes to the tumblers.

Lucy at this point in the strip is the only person who is more insufferable than Charlie Brown himself!

At picnic-type events, I often grab a piece of ice from the drink cooler and rub it between my hands for a quick finger rinse. Tip!

Just pour a ice cooler over Lucy’s head, Charlie Brown!
