What is the difference between a davenport and a sofa?Today, a couch is a piece of furniture large enough to lie down on that’s bigger than a loveseat, which is built for two. In essence, a davenport describes a piece of upholstered furniture big enough to lie down on that was made and named by the Davenport Furniture Company in Massachusetts, according to Creators.
I remember when I originally read that strip that I had to look up the word “Davenport”. It was very confusing, since I had a neighbor with that surname, and SHE didn’t know what the noun meant.
I remember reading a Peanuts collection when I was 3 or 4. I’ve always remembered this particular strip because “davenport” was confusing to me and I had to go find my older sis to help me out. She had helped me out with “Schroeder” a few minutes earlier. Maybe some other words, too. Huh, I wonder if I was a pest to my sister? Nah, I doubt it, but I’ll text her 12 times to ask her.

I’m worried, I have a very twisted sense of humour to-night, still better than how I felt for the past week.

Today’s strip reminds me of a line in the old movie “The Thin Man,” when Nick Charles cited a report claiming he had been shot twice in the tabloids.

Wow – now there’s a term that takes me back! We had one but I think it’s a couch or sofa without a back?
