Don’t worry Schroeder, you’ll make it to the big league.

Schroeder’s parents didn’t want the noise of a real piano, so they got him that one.

Years ago, Atlantic Records held this monster event to celebrate their 40th year in business. They rounded up everybody they could get who had ever recorded on their label and put together a concert that went on all day and into the night.

One of the acts was Keith Emerson (EL&P). He came onstage and sat at this dinky little practice piano, and I remember thinking, “WTF, he should be playing a concert grand.” Turns out, there was a reason for what they did.

He was playing a fairly complex piece (can’t recall the name now), and he was playing fast and hard. Then all of a sudden, he gets up, walks around behind the piano, reaches over the top and starts playing it from behind. It took me a moment, but then it dawned on me that the keyboard would flipped around backwards from his perspective. And it didn’t even slow him down.

What a talent…he will be missed for a long time.

I love the real masterpieces Schroeder plays. This one seems to be Voices of Spring, Waltz by Johann Strauss II, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYw3tF5plR0

When I was in third grade I got to play a tenoroon. Now they make bassoons for children in China.
