Our Christmas trees in the early 1950’s when this comic was drawn were lit with candles clipped to the branches because we didn’t have electricity then, or running water. It’s a safe bet that you can’t buy those candle clips anymore.
Indeed, Beethoven is out, he hardly composed any Christmas music at all. Schroeder should play the last part of The Seasons by Tchaikovsky (“December: Christmas”)
That’s the problem with having your birthday so soon before Christmas. You’re still riding the high when BAM! someone replaces your bust with a Christmas tree. No wonder Beethoven always looked so grumpy.

Schroeder is really trying to not get excited and keep his composer.

I like it. Can you play Jingle Bells

Yeah, I dunno. Did a Christmas tree ever compose something worthwhile?

Roll with it, Schroeder… like Beethoven, the Christmas tree is a German invention.
