What did he do to make the girls mad in the first place? Blather on and on about baseball? Criticize their mud pie recipe? Say that he liked the little red-haired girl better than either of them?

He left the door open when he walked out? There doesn’t appear to be a screen door.

Charlie evolves (or de-evolves) from having the girls fight over him, to having them bully him and then recant, to being utterly shunned.
