Perhaps Linus is just now learning how to read? For a long time he’s been shown to be still illiterate: having books read to him and dictating to Charlie Brown his letters to Santa and the Great Pumpkin. I think I missed the point where this ended but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t that long ago, perhaps no more than a year from this strip.
