Charlie Brown stands on the pitcher's mound and prepares to pitch the ball.<BR><BR> Lucy stands in the outfield looking around.<BR><BR> Lucy runs to her house.<BR><BR> Lucy takes the lid off of the cake dish.<BR><BR> Lcy sits eating a slice of cake. Charlie Brown comes up and shouts, "What in the world are you doing?"<BR><BR> Charlie Brown continues, "One minute you're in center field and the next minute you're gone! What kind of ball player are you?!!"<BR><BR> Lucy replies, "I was standing out ther in center field, Charlie Brown, and I was paying attention like you always tell me to do."<BR><BR> Lucy smiles and says, "Suddenly, out of nowhere, I heard a piece of cake calling me!"<BR><BR>

They do that. It’s true. And you can’t ignore them, either.

It would have been FUNNY, even HILARIOUS, if Schulz ever did depict food as human beings, with speech balloons emanating from them, when "calling"someone. He might as well have done that, after all, there were times he would depict objects, such as articles of clothing, as human, by having speech bubbles coming from them. I know that’s only an expression, meaning Lucy is SO hungry, and thinking about cake, and can’t help herself any longer, so she disappears and goes home to help herself to some cake.
