This is the first appearance of Rerun van Pelt, the younger brother of both Lucy and Linus. Rerun began as a baby. He later grew up to be around Kindergarten age in the last years of the strip. The best Rerun strips regarded him riding on the back of his mother’s bicycle. (His mom was a terrible cyclist.) Rerun would later appear in a majority of the strips in the final years of “Peanuts”.

Rerun made debut on the same day, The $10,000 Pyramid and The Young and The Restless aired on the former Peanuts network: CBS.

Welcome to the strip, Rerun!
Interesting how his development was handled in contrast to Sally’s. We saw Sally as an infant, learning to crawl, having thought balloons before she could speak.
Here we haven’t seen Rerun at all, and he’s already walking and speaking.

And just on yesterday’s strip I was about to ask when we’d get to meet Rerun, and here he is! Yay!

Er… he was introduced a fair bit ago. Lucy gave him the nickname.

Hey, first appearance of Rerun! And exactly 30 years before I was born

Rerun’s first actual appearance, but this is the first time he was so much as acknowledged since 7/2/72. Apparently, Schulz just didn’t know what else to do with him after having his introduction serve as a plot device after Lucy threw Linus out of the house.
