Marcie stands next to Peppermint Patty. Peppermint Patty talks into the phone and shouts, "Lucille, you ran out on me!!"<BR><BR> Peppermint Patty continues, "I had one ear pierced and you ran out! What am I going to do with one pierced ear?!!!"<BR><BR> Peppermint Patty walks with Marcie and says, "I should have listened to you, Marcie . . . Besides, what do girls like us who have long hair need with pierced ears?"<BR><BR> Marcie says, "I had my ears pierced last year, sir . . ." Peppermint Patty screams.<BR><BR>

NOW Marcie tells Peppermint Patty she actually had her ears pierced, after Lucy had chickened out at the last minute. (But then, of course that was the joke.) Lucy’s chickening our at the last minute reminds me of Snoopy’s having chickened out at the last minute when it was his idea to be her partner in the Christmas ice show, two and a half years earlier(and after the way he POSITIVELY insisted, kind of the way Lucy persuaded PP that they get their ears pierced together.)
