Linus looks off to his right where barking is coming from. He walks off saying,"Why do dogs sit in cars, and bark?"<BR><BR> Sally stands next to the sandbox holding her pail and spade. Linus approaches her saying,"I was just over in the parking lot by the supermarket...."<BR><BR> He continues,"There was this dog in the back of a station wagon, and he was barking and barking and barking."<BR><BR> He wonders,"The windows were down a little so he had enough air, but I wonder why he was barking....was he mad? Was he afraid? Was he lonely?"<BR><BR> They approach Snoopy lying on his back atop the doghouse. Linus says,"If Snoopy could talk, maybe he could tell us."<BR><BR> Snoopy sits up and watches them walk away. He thinks,"I wouldn't even try."<BR><BR> He lies down and thinks,"There are some things you can never explain to a layman."<BR><BR>

Some years ago, I was parked next to a car with a standard poodle in the front seat, sitting up straight, looking very calm and dignified, patiently waiting for his human to return. Elsewhere in the parking lot, here was another dog left alone, a lab mix I believe, that was crying and howling, apparently in the grip of some serious separation anxiety. Quite a contrast.
