No Great Pumpkin vigil for Linus? Actually, I have noticed that this wasn’t the only year; 1972 and 1978 were a couple of other years when he actually did not make his annual fool of himself in the pumpkin patch.

Highly probable that Linus IS in the ol’ pumpkin patch. AND getting rained on to boot. Mr Schulz just decided to focus on poor drowned rat Patty, while the lives or the other li’l folks go on “off camera.”
