I was fed that old “highschool is the best years of your life” line when I graduated early (back then it was just so unusual!). I have since realised that it may have been the best years of my then-teachers’ lives…but certainly not mine! If it is, you are in for a long, unhappy existence, since highschool is only 4 years anyway. The only thing I wanted from my particular high school, was the diploma. I went on to college and a new life.
Depending on when he drew/wrote this comic, CS was about 42 then. Something to do with his own reflection? Though I’d suspect he was pretty happy with his life, considering CB’s dad must not be satisfied with being a barber. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)
40 still is old. Just ask any 20 year old. Nothing has changed except the perception of it. And don’t tell me health care has gotten so much better that people live longer. Because my parents both would disagree.
As I’ve said before, Charlie Brown, wait until your dad hits 50 and beyond. Then you’ll really start to see some odd behavior late at night. For me, though, 30 was nothing, 40 was a mere speed bump, and 50 was the new 30! :)
Gawd, I was cleaning out a closet and found my prep school yearbook. Choate, 1956. Now I know why I hated the place. All my classmates looked like “Mitt the Twit” with that damned rich kid “I’m entitled to it because my family is rich look.”

High School was okay – really. But it was a lot more fun when I got out on my own.

I read this in the paper when I was seventeen. Yeah, forty was real old, almost dead old. I read it now at 64 and just laugh.

Yep… I am in College. My 2nd year.
I started the secondary when I was 11 and I’m 17 now. Turn 18 in December which I am trying NOT to think about.
Why do I feel so old?
LOL.

News Flash: whoever named that certain time in life “The Golden Years” was being sarcastic. Very, very sarcastic.
