Yeah, I know…locally they have imported Halloween (rather unsuccessfully I might add because they don’t seem to “get” it) and they have translated “Trick or Treat” as “Deal or Trick”. Doesn’t have the same resonance. But then no one would let their kids go door to door asking for candy from total strangers anyway, here.
There is a Charles Schulz tribute in today’s Thatababy, with the Peanuts characters in their costumes in the last panel, like in the TV special, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”Click here: Thatababy (October 28, 2012)
Lucy is naturally crabby…that’s her role in the Peanuts universe. She represents all the crabby and often-unreasonable people we all have in our own universe…those who instinctively see the negative and often never see the positive…But that doesn’t make her all bad by any means. She would lose her clout and her street cred if she came across as too nice…an’ being selfish and bossy is her nature, so her good side and kind instincts are kept well in check…
@TrapperJohn:Maybe Jo Clear was thinking of the way that Lucy and the gang “say it” in the Halloween special. Also keep in mind that there are posters of various ages on this site, including kids.Presumably, “tricks or treats” is also the way Charles Schulz said it when he was growing up in Minnesota. Seems like using the plural is a good psychological ploy, since it implies that you should get more than one treat from each house.
@Jo Clear: The most important thing is not to let anyone discourage you from commenting in the future. You can’t please everyone, and there will always be someone who dislikes something that you say or how you say it. Just focus on the fact that there are a whole lot of people out there who enjoy reading what you have to contribute, and who would miss your participation if you left.

I’m surprised she didn’t keep the extra booty.

My favorite part of the special is when Lucy, without saying a word, goes and gets Linus out of the pumpkin patch and tucks him into bed.

Well at least she gave up her time for her little brother.
Even though it drove her round the bend and probably won’t consider doing it again.
LOL xxx

Is sitting in a pumpkin patch a trick?

I can’t believe Lucy was actually being nice to Linus

I wondered why the plural also. When I was young in Idaho, it was Trick or treat.
