In my opinion, with Linus being the straight-A, honor roll kid that he is, maybe that’s why he really cannot afford to miss even so much as one day of school, if he desires to go to college.
When this strip came out, there was a very common public interest TV announcement that ran all the time and used the expression “the college of your choice.” (I’m old enough to have seen it back then.) Does anyone remember exactly what it was promoting (except encouraging kids to go to college, obviously)?
Back in the day when this strip was written, it was funny. Today, it’s true. The old Frasier show did a spoof on this when Lilith and Frasier went to ridiculous lengths to get their son into a pre-school. I know people like this.
I had some surgeries over the past couple of years. I scheduled them so as to be able to recouperate over a holiday weekend and therefore miss the minumum amount of work.
This would have raised red flags in a former company of mine where they kept track of people who took sick days adjacent to holidays.
It amazes me that managers still equate hours spent at work with productivity. Due to my prowess with programming, I can do in 30 minutes tasks that used to take a room full of people hours to do with more errors.

Linus is well-prepared for the working world. Sick days? What are those?

Do you need to attend school everyday to go to college in the future? I’ve never heard of that as being a requirement.

Sadly, Linus will never grow up, thus never get to college…after so many years.

With a sister like Lucy, it’s no wonder that Linus is dizzy.

Somehow I don’t think Linus will have to worry about going to college…

Maybe Linus has worries about September 11, 2001 – 35 years after the original strip of 1966.
