It truly was sad, because this arc ran the year that Schulz’ own house burned down. It was a bad year all around for him. His father died during a visit, and then he lost his house. I think was partly a way for him of working it out.
SPOILERSIn the coming days, we will see Lucy at her judgmental worst. She keeps suggesting that Snoopy was probably smoking in bed. As far as I know, Snoopy has never smoked! Then, she suggests that it is divine punishment for his sins. I wish that Snoopy was the biting type.
If that was supposed to be funny, it’s not. Though Snoopy can be a jerk sometimes, I actually feel very sorry for the guy, hope he rebuilds his doghouse soon.
I have this strip poor Snoopy yes Lucy said he was smoking in bed though I don’t know of any dog who does then she said he was being punished for his sins Snoopy hasn’t sinned has he?!!!…..in the book The Gospel according to Peanuts the writer says Snoopy is the Christ like figure though this sounds mean who wishes Lucy’s bedroom would burn??!!!!!!
Amy, with all due respect, please don’t bring religion into this. Snoopy has not sinned, and I seriously doubt he is a smoker. Snoopy is a dog, and this happens in life a lot, does not mean at all that people whose houses are burnt deserve it or anything. Accidents happen, and It is the way of nature, nothing more, nothing less. This is a comic, and if Schultz was religious, I doubt he wanted this particular strip to symbolize anything.
Heh, I bet after that last panel, Charlie Brown ran around the neighborhood in his pajamas yelling “FIRE! HELP! FIRE!” And he ran up to the Van Pelts’ house and he cried out to Lucy and Linus, “SOMEBODY HELP! SNOOPY’S HOUSE IS ON FIRE! SOMEBODY SAVE HIS HOUSE! FIRE! FIRE!” But unlike the Chateau Du Mal Voisin, they were unable to save Snoopy’s doghouse in time…

Is Snoopy a Gallifreyan beagle? It could explain his doghouse being bigger on the inside than out.

It’s rather sad that they make no effort to put out the fire. Much of the house is still not consumed.

In the Peanuts TV series episode “Reach for the Stars”, Lucy thought that Snoopy had a fireplace, a barbecue grill, or even a pizza oven.
