This strip wouldn’t work with any other Peanuts character. Snoopy shows human behaviour, which allows him to draw insulting pictures. But he is also a dog, showing animosity against cats, which is seen as normal, not as problematic. If a human Peanuts character would do something similar, the message would be very different. Most people would find such behaviour disturbed or racist.
In my opinion this strip goes a bit deeper than the usual Peanuts strip. Charles Schulz explores what he can do with his Snoopy character and touches emotions which we usually deny and don’t allow others to show. The first reaction is to laugh about it, but on second thought you can also think about the fine line between funny and not funny.(If Charles Schulz wouldn’t explore that fine line, he wouldn’t be so funny).
@Snoopy_FanThank you very much for that wonderful song. It was cute! Did you like the 70’s songbook I sent you a few weeks ago? There are some great songs on there.-If I ever find myself in Kentucky, I’ll be sure to visit the Ohio River. I might even see you there! -Mind if I send you a song? I’m a big fan of Motown music and I have a 2 Disc CD. Here is one of the songs I posted on Andy Capp the other day:

It was too early for Snoopy to irritate the cat next door with cat drawings.

Snoopy’s got the answer. That’s why I post comments here. Not that anyone else thinks they’re funny. But then again who cares?

I understand the last panel so well. When you have lived alone for over 20 years you get your entertainment anyway you can.
