I have always admired and envied Snoopy’s vivid fantasy life. These days, that seems to me to be an essential survival technique, and I am doing my best to channel Snoopy. Here’s Joe Cool hanging around the quad on a warm spring afternoon.
This strip got me to thinking. Revelry is lively partying. Reveille is a bugle call to wake the troops. Similarly, I sometimes goof between Calvary (Christ’s crucifixion site) and cavalry (soldier horsemen). Then again, in a grade school spelling bee, I incorrectly spelled “salvage” as “savage”. Sigh.
Snoopy always says World War I. But back then there was no notion of numbering; “the war to end all wars” was known as “The Great War.” It wasn’t rechristened “World War I” until after World War II.

Wonder how much complaining Soopy would’ve done if he’d been in a trench in France.

And that is why spies are also called “spooks.”

Don’t worry, Snoopy. It’s always the women who are too talkative.
I’m allowed to say that because I am a woman. A MAN saying it would cause World War III…
