“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” — Matthew 7:27

Schulz actually used that verse in another strip.

There’s a fable about why the magpie’s nest is poorly built. The magpie was unwilling to accept help from the other birds, so they all flew away, leaving her to DIY her nest.

Wow! This is kind of spooky considering an eagles nest was lost yesterday in a bad storm. Thankfully, nobirdy was hurt.

Why would Woodstock build a nest not protected by a trees leaves and branches? It is way out there exposed to the elements…

The birds here build them close to the trunk protected from the elements. The leaves and other branches of the tree protect them. And they stay mostly dry and shady from the sun.

We have an overhang for out front door and a large rosde bush growing next to it. For several years in the spring a pair of cardinals would make their nest in it and lay their eggs. The over hang kept off weather and airborn predators and the dense roses kept away cats and the like. The only problem in the neighborhood were two humans that use to walk by on their ways to work. We got in the habit of using the garage until the chicks flew away.
