I went to school in the mid sixties and then the seventies. In grade school we were told, “Oh you’ll learn about that in highschool.” So we read stories and wrote stories. When we got to highschool we were told, “Oh if you didn’t get that in elementary school, we haven’t got time for it now.” So we read stories and novels, and wrote stories and poems. Fortunately for me, I was a voracious reader from age 4. When I got to college, a lot of students couldn’t write a coherent sentence, let alone essay. As a freshman, I was tutoring seniors so they could pass the Writer’s Competency Exam and get their degrees.
I always figured if you knew the parts of sentences, you were okay. Don’t make grammatical blunders (like so many do on the internet) and things would make sense… or you can just watch this awesome video by Weird AL…

When you make a face like that of panel 2, you’re bound to have a face like that of panel 4, eventually!

I remember diagramming sentences in fifth grade in the early 60s. When the diagrams got be be two layers deep, you would feel like a real Hot-Shot!

Isn’t she too young to learn sentence diagramming? She’s about kindergarten age. I think we had sentence diagramming in about 4th grade.

It isn’t about sentences per se, but it is fun.
