I went to that type of grade school. Though most of the educational stuff happened when my older brother attended and I was too little to have started yet… the vice principal and the music teacher were very hands on with each other with the sex education class, the teacher who dated a student, though he did wait until she was in high school before they got married, and a few other scandals I don’t recall at the moment. the students learned a lot that was not on the official curriculum.
I went to a parochial school (not Catholic). In the 5th grade, I had an “old school” teacher (oh hell, he was just plain old), who had very fundamentalist views. According to him, the world was only 6,000 years old and was created in six literal 24 hour days. Now at that time, I was very much into dinosaurs (what ten year olds aren’t??). My teacher found this very offensive, as I was talking time lines in the hundreds of millions of years. He and I were already in each others’ faces about a lot of things, but my fascination with prehistoric life was unacceptable to him. He called me up in front of the class and decreed, “You will not think about such things!” Not that I had much respect for him before this, but in that moment, he lost whatever shred of credibility he might ever have had.
I went to 10 different schools before college, including four different high schools. There is a LOT of variation in education across the country. However, whatever they have been doing, they’ve been doing it for years and nothing a student points out will make one speck of difference.

Just seeing her write in cursive makes me suspect she’s educated…

My middle school was a really crummy place. It was total anarchy.

Unfortunately, things have only gotten worse in the ensuing 47 years.

I of course, totally ignored him.

Seems to me Sally has already learned a very important lesson.

It’s always surprising when Sally comes up with a brilliant thought. No one in the strip can beat her.

With all due respect to Clint Eastwood, a woman’s got to know her limits.

Sally, you need get that paper and un-wrinkle it and hand it in! You will confuse the teacher with your dazzling precepts!
