Rat: What are you doing, Pig? Pig: I saw you doing origami, so I thought I'd try it myself. This one's an exploding deli overwhelming a poor town with a wave of falling meats. Rat: It's a what now? Pig: An origami salami tsunami. Rat: You bring down the entire comics section.

He got the idea from a fortune-telling mother who specializes in those things: the Origami Salami Tsunami Swami Mommy.:Next!
legaleagle48 over 11 years ago
Actually, Rat, that’s one of Stephan’s better puns.
margueritem over 11 years ago
Ah, the lowly pun, how often it is maligned.
Templo S.U.D. over 11 years ago
Would it make Rat happy if Stephan stayed in jail while the animals and baby were bailed out?

Do you have any gray poop-on?

Sherlock….
I do hope the Swami Mommy warned my left-wing friend, Tommy, the Commie.
I think an origami salami tsunami would drive him quite balmy.
He hates salami…. though he does buy pastrami to feed his gourami.

Folks! Wake up and repent daydreaming in school……..That is NOT A PUN; it"s an alliteration……..a repetition of two or more words beginning with the same letter, or having the same sound. Stephan makes wonderfully, groan-inducing puns….but this aint one ofem.

Sick…..

Rhyming words, actually, but simply rhyming words does not make Pastis a poet.
PICTO over 11 years ago
On a visit to an art gallery we sausage an origami. As for the quality of the pun, I think it was the wurst.
SusanSunshine Premium Member over 11 years ago
It’s not a pun, it’s not alliteration…but it’s wordplay. It’s rhyming words, but not rhyming lines like in a poem…. (not that all poems rhyme.) I guess I’d say it’sa form of parachesis…a very tight form, since the words are fairly exact rhymes…But really, who cares WHAT literary device it is…. It’s funny.Isn’t that the point?

Actually, assonance and consonance are better terms to describe today’s shaggy dog tale…..

Luckily for us, mr. Pastis’ mommy never told him not to play with his words, or he ignored her! Oh , & by the way, CROCCYS RULE!!!
grayvlad8 over 11 years ago
I don’t know why pig didn’t make it on a straw mat and use more lunchmeat, the it would be an origami, salami, pastrami, tsunami on tatami.

Did I miss them getting out of jail?

I worked at an origami store. Until it folded.

Love the strip, and the comments that were not made by self-made comic critics.

Ahhhh – yesterday, the first panel (about Rat taking up origami) made me think that Pastis was leading up to a pun. When that didn’t happen, I felt a little empty. Now I realize that he was giving us a two-day set-up for a tsunami of a pun. My faith is restored!
Gokie5 over 11 years ago
Just read all the comments about pun/not pun. Whatever it is, I think it contributed to a satisfying ending.
Marc Schiffres over 11 years ago
Out of jail and back to the terrible puns, I see…
3pibgorn9 over 11 years ago
Actually they’re a string of what are called “feminine” rhymes in which the last two syllables rhyme. rather than “masculine” rhymes in which only the last syllable rhymes.
Alan Rees over 11 years ago
Amid all the discussion of what kind of word play this is, I’m surprised that no-one (unless I have missed a comment) has said anything about Pastis having used TWO DAYS’ strips to set this one up. Yesterday’s strip seemed a little flat and I wondered if he was getting ready for something else.
Number Three over 11 years ago
No matter how funny the whole strip is… The ‘ripping on Stephan Pastis because he made yet another terrible pun’ always cracks me up.
LOL xxx

nice smackdown Prof! It’s a fun pun son.
knight1192a over 11 years ago
Ok, this is the worst pun I’ve ever seen him do. Have to start setting it up the day before just to get a pun out. Bad.

I think Pig should be put back in prison. In solitary. In a soundproof, padded cell.
bcathey1960 over 11 years ago
Loved it – great word play!
bmonk over 11 years ago
It reminds me of several Guy Noir spots from A Prairie Home Companion, where they would indulge in such wordplay banter.
blunebottle over 11 years ago
I have to say, todays comments were very entertaining in themselves and well worth the read. Kudos to Pastis to be able to generate this much traffic from a simple paper player pander.

Love it!How DO you come up with these??

I’ve never really been a fan of the pun strips, but I forgive them because of all the unique (and funny) complaints Rat levels at Pastis.
