Ironically, when it comes to assassinated President’s Pig is sadly right. Garfield and McKinley tend to get little attention, probably because it took them so long to die. Garfield is shot July 2, 1881 and dies eleven weeks later. It’s not the gunshot wound which actually kills him, it’s the infection caused by doctors digging around trying to remove the bullet and complications from the infection. Guiteau shot him but ultimately it was the doctors who killed him. McKinley’s death was faster, shot September 6, 1901 he dies just eight days later. His wounds did kill him and this may be partially due to doctors not using not one but two X-ray machines at their disposal (there was one at the Pan-American Exposition that doctors didn’t use claiming it would have done little good and Edison sent another to Buffalo which there are supposedly various reasons why it wasn’t used including claims of a test revealing a crucial part was missing). Though to be fair the X-ray machines probably wouldn’t have helped, they were still primitive devices at the time.

30 years ago I had a cat named Guiteau. Only one friend (a Yale history major) ever got the joke.

Goat is probably reading “Assassination Vacation” by historical tourist Sarah Vowell. (1) It is a very good read about the assassinations of Lincoln, McKinley and Garfield.

JFK was killed by some cabal. 9/11 was an inside job. FDR knew in advance about Pearl Harbor. Now, my question to people who believe these things is, you must have some personal observation or experience that convinces you the world is full of plots. Not what someone told you, or you read on line, or “figured out,” but something FIRST-HAND. If you had a bad tour in ‘Nam and saw rampant faking of reports, or you were falsely imprisoned, or you’re a minority, I can see why you might think that way. But I’ve asked this question many times and as far as I can tell, NOBODY who believes in conspiracies has any first-hand experience or observation to back it up.-And for everyone else, no, nobody cares about your theories. Save it for your Psych 101 paper.

To be fair, Pig is a cartoon character, as is Garfield (the lasagna one). James Garfield is just some guy from the pages of a text book, not the real life funny pages to them.

It’s well-known here in Britain that Guiteau was trying to blow Garfield’s brains out.

Read “Destiny of the Republic” which covers the Garfield assassination. Learn where the term, “ignorance is bliss” had true meaning!
