Paper? I didn’t see that in there. But dice are definitely needed for the game she has in mind. I haven’t tried the online version of D&D, but I think the real life version has to have more “scope for the imagination”.

This should be interesting, especially if Marigold doesn’t understand the full nuances of the game before they start playing.

Roll playing and pretending to be magical when you already know a hand full of real magical things, this could turn out better then Phoebe abusing the shield of warmyness and having to make the last 3 feet of the trip in the snow in her underwear. Once again Dana’s imagination trumps any direction my imagination would have went in. Though some times I wounder about my alternate universe.

Also when phoebe rolls her eyes it looks like shes reading the word balloon above her head.

also Max: In this adventure A princess has been kidnapped by the Goblin Queen and you have to rescue her with your Magical Unicorn.

Phoebe: been there done that. I’ll go get my Spaghetti with +2 magical enchantment.

I played Dungeons and Dragons for years, and is funny… the problem is if you have more than a Dungeon Master.

D&D is not the only fantasy role playing game, though it does feature magic and unicorns. I have played Science fiction games like Traveler as well. There are also old western and super hero role playing games too.

With a unicorn present, a simple board game can take on three dimensions (incase anyone forgot, we already met a dragon).

I can more easily see Max playing the role of a Marine commando with a plasma rifle and powered assault armor, than a simple sword swinger.

…Role Master was better than D&D or AD&D; Call of Cthulhu was a blast…but I can’t help but feel sorry for people who play it online. There’s nothing like getting a group of friends together in person for a marathon session – the live, in your face interaction lifts the role-playing to a much higher level…but it all depends on having a great GM…

It would be interesting to see either Marigold as a DM obsessed with Unicorns or her reaction to Max trying to slay a dragon.

Okay, I just got Shadowrun, and now I’m imagining Phoebe and Max playing that…

That said — in the theme of the strip, is there anyone here who can GM a small campaign over the next few days?
