Marigold: What do you see up there?
Phoebe: It looks like... A platform! Like, sort of a treehouse!
Marigold: I want to see! I will get a running start and jump up!
Phoebe: How big a running start do you need?
Marigold: Not far. Three or four zip codes.

That’s for when the jump is for distance. For height she would need to dig a hole and run up it’s wall.

three or four ZIP codes, huh?

The beginning of a tree house. I remember my little cousins constructing one log ago, but nobody let us finish.

This could be a hunter’s homemade tree stand. Most hunters use temporary metal stands that can be erected and disassembled with out harming the tree. Some hunters may choose to erect a permanent wooden structure nailed to the tree, if they own the property.

I love fall so much I start celebrating the day the sun starts going south again. Thank you, Dana, for this beautiful fall-colored strip.

Part 1. Back when I was a kiddy-wink in Waterville, ME, the neighborhood boys (not so much the girls, but this was the 50s, after all) used to play in a huge empty lot. None of us knew that it had been the athletic field of the local prep school, abandoned when the footbridge linking it to the campus was lost in a storm back in the 30s. (There were the remains of a racetrack, but we had no idea what it had been for.)

Part 2. In the middle of the space, there was a four-trunked tree, with just such a platform as this, and just such a ladder. No one knew where it had come from, but we spent a lot of time up there.
In 1961, alas, the space was taken over by the city, and was used to build a new high school, and (again) an athletic field.

Is Marigold going to get stuck in a tree?
BruceBergman about 8 years ago
If Marigold really wants up there, a hoist and trolley, and a sling.

Reminds me of the Flash getting a 5.3-mile head start in order to punch out a man of steel.

It could also be one of those platforms for hunters.
