Opal, ever hear of a handwritten list? The ability to use pencil and paper is our last defense against The Machine!

I’m disappointed in you, Mr. Crane. You’ve always written Opal as a much more savvy person than this. (BTW, I’m 71 and know how to get around an Excel spreadsheet pretty well) Cheap shot.

“My Mom is 89 and uses the computer, although I have to help out on occasion…she does NOT know how to cut and paste but what she doesn’t know won’t hurt her”**********************************************Teach her! It’s idiotically easy and a lot of fun.I know — I’m going on 84 and I can vouch for it — it gets addictive. In fact I cut and pasted your comment into my comment.

My mother, who’d been a secretary and clerical worker until her retirement at 83, learned to use the computer at 81. She was thrilled at the innovations such as spell check and formatting, cut & paste etc. She chided us for not encouraging her to learn sooner !The old typewriter went into the closet and we were forced to purchase a computer for her. She loved it ! It almost replaced the telephone as her stay-in-touch tool in her role as the matriarch of the family.

I remember a strip where she had joined Facebook and commented on her sister’s cat which had died and Opal had put ‘LOL’ as she thought it meant ‘Lots of Love’ and not ‘Laugh out Loud’

Ah, so the kid’s mother IS still around. I was beginning to think he’d been abandoned at his grandparents’.

I was shocked when my mom got a computer. This is a woman who had problems running her dvd recorder! Now she does both on her own just fine…somehow! ;)

A lot of people don’t hear the the prompts on the automated phone systems very well and then get caught up in a nightmare the wrong people.
