That was my mom, if you dared to say you were bored or wanted something new to do, she wouldn’t come up with a new hobby or toy, she’d set you to doing housework or gardening! Of course, that was the girls. Guys didn’t do any housework in those days, particularly in that house.
Pulling weeds has to be done, and it can be miserable. Try weeding purslane and grass from 50-foot rows of newly sprouted carrots, like I often did! It eventually trains you to put your mind into a better place. .You forget the hot sun, your aching back, and stiff knees — and your thoughts soar into past and future and before you know it you have it done. It helped me keep sane when later I worked on the auto parts stamping line, or painted rooms in our house.
That is the best cure for boredom. It prevents you from sitting around being bored, and the things that aren’t entertaining make the fun things seem more fun.
Those two words: " I’m bored " were never uttered in my house growing up. My brother and I knew the consequences. Even if we were sick and out of school, as long as we were ambulatory, my mother was extremely creative about finding chores for us to do.
According to family tradition, I was never bored. I could always find something to do – not always approved – but something. Now some of the mandatory things were boring, but that did not involve a lack of alternatives on my part.
You know people aren’t alerted when you “reply” to them so once was more than enough. [/off-topic]I once read a quote somewhere, “The key to happiness is never being bored.” .Now that can be taken many ways, and I prefer to take it that you have to keep yourself from becomming bored if you want to lead a full and happy life, ie. don’t focus on bordom, either amuse yourself or focus on something worthwhile.
I would love the opportunity to comment on either Pibgorn or Chickweed……I like his artwork but I think that he has his own version of sexism and doesn’t like anyone topping it.

Nothing counters boredom like weed pulling.

When I was a kid I was board a lot, no library, sister and I had to make up our own games. Our mom not much fun. No pulling weeds either.

What’s with the Chickweed Land? This is Pickles. As for boredom, unless you are unfortunate like Kab, boredom is usually laziness.

@emptc12“Pulling weeds has to be done.”Respectfully disagree. Weeds have a right to their own existence.

The last time I was bored was in 1948, for a fleeting minute. It was awful! Then I got busy doing something else and that was the end of that.
