Once I met a lwoman of a certain age in my doctor’s waiting room. She confided to me that she signs her emails LOL for “Little Old Lady.” Another senior type thought for years it meant “Lots of love.” Guess it can mean whatever you want it to, but sometimes, the context just makes you scratch your head…
Not being a regular on social media, it took me a long time to figure out what ROTFL and LMAO stood for.MY generation was more used to acronyms like FUBAR and SNAFU !
I once use SNAFU in a conversation and someone said, “I didn’t know you cussed.” I replied, “My dictionary says ‘fouled’.” And a lot of younger participants gave a variety of “what are you talking about” grunts.

Long ago, “LOL” was “Lots of Love.” Imagine replying, “Heard your cancer is back. So sorry. LOL.” (No, I didn’t.)

There, I’ve admitted it and I don’t feel better or worse because I don’t sweat the small stuff.
